
We are seeking to establish a Vocational Trainer and Assessor pool for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
The School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) is the main centre for Kindergarten to Year 12 distance education and online learning. It provides quality education for students who for various reasons cannot attend classes in a mainstream school.
SIDE caters for Western Australian students who are:
- geographically isolated
- temporarily living overseas or travelling within Australia or overseas and not enrolled at a local school
- enrolled full-time in a registered dance/ballet school
- involved in elite performance including sport, theatre and music
- school-based students whose local schools are unable to offer appropriate courses
- unable to attend regular school due to severe health conditions

The Role
Suitable applicants will prepare, deliver, and assess training programs in line with established delivery and assessment plans and strategies. They will instruct, train and assess groups of secondary students, delivering practical skill demonstrations where required. Suitable applicants would also induct and mentor students throughout their training, ensuring a clear understanding of course requirements, timelines, and available resources.
They will ideally, provide constructive feedback on student progress and assessment outcomes, offering guidance on future learning pathways. Suitable applicants will also contribute to the ongoing improvement of training and assessment resources by providing feedback and suggestions. Accurate maintenance of training records and timely reporting of assessment results will also be expected.
In addition, suitable applicants will ideally, establish and maintain productive working relationships with key stakeholders, including schools, students, parents, and employers. They will ideally display a commitment to safe work practices by complying with all relevant occupational health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures.

Eligibility
To work with us, you must:
- be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
- obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
- consent to a National Criminal History Check with the Department's Screening Unit.
- hold one of the following:

- TAE 40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment;
- TAE 40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment: and
- TAELLN411 or TAELLN401A; and:
- TAEASS502 or TAEASS502A or TAEASS502B;
- a relevant higher qualification
- hold and maintain a current ‘C’ class drivers’ licence
- undertake travel throughout the state, including overnight stays in non-metropolitan locations and remote locations as required
