We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role

As an Education Assistant - Special Needs you will, under teacher direction, assist in the implementation of specialised education programs. Suitable applicants will assist the teacher in the delivery of specific individual education programs, including the operation of computers and digital technologies.

Experience in working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, using de-escalation strategies, knowledge of functions of behaviour, demand avoidance and behavioural issues, would be highly desirable. Also, when required, the Education Assistant - Special Needs will observe and consistently assist with implementation of educational approaches and therapy programs, using the most updated research.

The Education Assistant - Special Needs will ideally participate in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of goals in special education. It is highly desirable that suitable applicants possess or are actively working towards a Certificate III in Education Support.

Suitable applicants will ideally have excellent interpersonal, communication and ICT skills and the ability to collaborate well with the teacher to create and maintain a supportive, inclusive education program to meet the specific needs of the students. Understanding appropriate communication with parents is also an asset. They should be calm, patient, organised and able to use their initiative to assist the teacher with the general care and wellbeing of students and maintenance of the learning environment.
