We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant - Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Meadow Springs Education Support Centre (ESC) caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 who have an Intellectual Disability and or Autism. Currently we have 89 students in our school from Kindergarten to Year 6. Based on current enrolments 90% of our students have a primary diagnosis of Autism and 60% of our students have complex communication needs. The Education Support Centre has 10 classrooms that are integrated throughout the Meadow Springs school site. At Meadow Springs our shared belief is that we are two schools but one School Community to which all staff, students and parents belong.

The Role

Meadow Springs ESC is seeking to appoint a number of Education Assistants – Special Needs to current vacancies. As an Education Assistant – Special Needs you will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of planned education programs. This will ideally include managing small groups of students under the direction of the teacher. You will ideally work in a collaborative environment to provide support for students in and out of the classroom. Experience and qualifications in working with students with Intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, complex communication needs, and challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.

The suitable  applicants should be friendly, approachable, flexible, and have a genuine interest in supporting students with high educational needs. You will ideally be caring, proactive, and responsive, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, as well as possess good written and oral communication skills to enable the implementation of individual or small group-based programs. Applicants who are confident and innovative in using Augmentative and Alternative Communication  (AAC) are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant should display a willingness to learn and apply new skills / knowledge.

Each class has a teacher and a team of education assistants that work together to support the learning needs of the students. Education Assistants are ideally expected to be reflective on their own practice and be open to honest and constructive feedback. Education Assistants are ideally expected to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members. Meadow Springs ESC is a Positive Behaviour School and staff are expected to model our 3 behaviour expectations - being safe, respectful, and trying their best both in the classroom and the playground.

  • Demonstrated effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or psychologists.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well being of students.
