Aboriginal Boarding Supervisor - Female

The minimum starting remuneration for this position (salary plus loading) is $93,867 per annum, increasing each year of successful service to $100,643.

Geraldton Residential College is seeking a highly passionate and committed individual to join our team in the role of female Aboriginal Boarding Supervisor.

The Role

Aboriginal Boarding Supervisors help provide a supportive and safe environment for Aboriginal students. They also help the staff of the residential college to recognise the diverse perspectives that Aboriginal students bring by sharing their knowledge of Aboriginal history, culture and language.

The successful applicant will support and reinforce appropriate values and behaviours in students, fulfilling duty of care requirements in line with Department policy. You will regularly communicate with colleagues, parents, school staff and others involved in supporting student education, development and wellbeing.

In addition, you will provide and supervise opportunities which support the cultural, academic, social, emotional and physical development of students. You will plan and implement activities suitable for students to participate in, ensuring students receive appropriate care that supports their wellbeing.

Eligibility

Being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background is considered essential for this position under section 50(d) of the Western Australian Equal Opportunity Act.

To work with us, you must: 

  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
  • consent to a National Criminal History Check with the Department's Screening Unit. 
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check if required
  • work according to rostered hours which may include nights, weekends and public holidays;
  • obtain (prior to first rostered shift working with students) and maintain a current:
    • First Aid Certificate – Provide CPR (HLTAID001)
    • First Aid Certificate – Provide First Aid (HLTAID003)
  • within six months of commencement of employment obtain and maintain a current:
    • LR Class Driver’s Licence and a Passenger Transport Driver (PTD) authorisation;
    • Aquatic Rescue for Group III Pool Award*; and
    • Surf Rescue Certificate*;
  • obtain a Certificate IV in Community Services – Student Residential Care (CHC42021) within six months of commencement of employment.

* Dependent on operational requirements as determined by College Manager.
