This is a permanent full-time position commencing June 2025

The Department’s Standards and Integrity Directorate within the Professional Standards and Conduct Division, is responsible for:

  • assessing and managing complaints
  • investigating staff disciplinary matters, including reportable conduct
  • conducting reviews, including those relating to child deaths
  • monitoring working with children check compliance of departmental employees
  • delivering integrity education training across the Department
  • identifying and managing serious misconduct risk associated with fraud and corruption.

The Role

The Department of Education is seeking an outstanding leader with relevant or transferable experience to join our team as a Principal Investigator. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of high performing and talented investigators, and be in a position of influence to support integrity, ethical conduct, and child safety across the public education system.

In this role, you will oversee and manage a team responsible for staff disciplinary matters including reportable conduct under the Reportable Conduct Scheme. At times you will undertake complex administrative/regulatory-style investigations and reviews, as well as provide expert advice to senior leaders, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that support corporate objectives and strengthen organisational practices. Your ability to balance competing priorities, communicate with influence, and work collaboratively across internal and external stakeholders will be key to your success.

As a leader, you will support the development of your team by promoting a collaborative approach to tasks, identifying professional development opportunities, and managing performance in line with public sector standards. You will be responsible for setting clear expectations, ensuring compliance with statutory and oversight obligations, and contributing to the development of policies and procedures that reflect better practice. This is an opportunity to apply your skills in investigation management, staff development, and stakeholder engagement to support ethical leadership and uphold the values of the public sector.

The successful applicant for this position will initially be responsible for establishing and embedding the newly created Early Resolution Team, which is an initiative focused on the timely prioritisation and risk assessment of matters approved for discipline investigation and early resolution of less complex matters to reduce investigation timeframes and minimise the impact of the disciplinary process on those affected by or subject to complaints. The Early Resolution Team will initially report to the Manager Investigations work group, however, will be moved to the Manager Assessments, towards the end of 2025, in accordance with structural realignment within the Standards and Integrity Directorate and focus on connecting the Early Resolution Team with the Complaints Coordination function.
