The Role
Bruce Rock DHS is seeking a Deputy Principal - Special Educational Needs (SEN) to support the success of our students with alternate educational needs. We are looking for an inspirational, adaptable, solutions-focused collaborator with a hands-on and ‘everyday’ approach to leadership, who is looking to thrive in a Regional District-High School. The successful applicant will ideally be a leader who meets challenges with a creative mindset and a dedication to promoting and embedding our school’s plan, values and goals.
Working closely with the Principal, the Deputy Principal plays a key leadership role in the development of plans and school processes to identify, support and assess students who require additional supports to access the curriculum and achieve success. The successful candidate will have a passion for seeing every child have the chance to be part of a thriving classroom environment, collaborate with their peers and achieve success in education. We will be looking for applicants with a background of knowledge and/or skills in working with students with specific learning difficulties, neurodivergence and behaviour challenges, as well as experience in liaising with the school psychology service, Schools of Special Education Needs, external providers and service agencies.
Successful applicants will ideally have experience and/or knowledge in the following areas:
- Understanding and supporting the use of visuals in all classrooms
- Disability resourcing
- Functional Needs Assessments
- ABLEWA curriculum and reporting
- Alternative Augmentative Communication
- Team Teach or Therapeutic Crisis Intervention
- Functional Behaviour Analysis
- TEACCH

Teachers and School Administrators employed at Bruce Rock District High School in 2025 are eligible to receive a temporary Attraction and Retention Incentive of $3 500 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
The temporary ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.
