We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Founded in 1966, Castletown Primary School (PS) is a Level 5, Independent Public School for students in Kindergarten to Year 6. Castletown PS is situated 720 km's from Perth in the picturesque coastal town of Esperance in the Goldfields region. The school caters for approximately 500 students with the population drawn from rural and town communities.

We offer a diverse range of learning programs, ensuring that every student develops the knowledge and skills to become confident, independent learners. From specialised programs in Art, Science, Physical Education, Indonesian and Technologies, to our focus on Numeracy and Literacy. We provide students with a balanced approach to learning, ensuring students are engaged, motivated, and involved in the educative process. The Role

Suitable applicants will, under teacher direction, assist the teacher in the delivery of planned education programs, including the operation of computers and digital technologies, and implement individual student or small group programs or demonstrations. When required, you will provide feedback on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of goals on individualised education plans. You will also assist in the implementation of specialised education programs such as occupational therapy, speech therapy and physiotherapy programs.

Special Needs Education Assistants assist the teacher or therapist to understand when there is communication difficulty between them and a student and, under teacher direction, provide feedback to caregivers/parents as to the student’s progress. Suitable applicants are expected to ensure the safe and hygienic storage and handling of foodstuffs and food preparation utensils.

Suitable applicants will ideally have good interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to be organised and flexible in a dynamic environment. You should be friendly, approachable, flexible, and have a genuine interest in supporting students with educational needs, and pastoral care support and will ideally be caring, proactive, and responsive, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. You will work alongside teachers to ensure the implementation of the school business plan and priorities using the agreed programs and strategies. The ability to work with small groups of students, assisting them socially and academically, is highly desirable. Education Assistants who have worked with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in an Early Childhood Setting are desirable.
