
We are seeking to establish a pool of Deputy Principal’s for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Balcatta Primary School (PS) is situated 10km north-west of Perth in the suburb of Balcatta. We cater for students in Kindergarten to Year 6 and are very proud of our heritage and multicultural population, representing approximately twenty different ethnic groups.
Many of the teaching staff have experience in teaching students of ethnic backgrounds. The school's mission is to develop independent learners by supporting each child to attain their highest academic, social, cultural and physical potential.
Extra support is available to the school for literacy and numeracy development and for non-English speaking students. There are also specially equipped rooms for Mathematics/Science, Art/Craft, and Music/Drama as well as a computer room with teacher support and a purpose-built fully automated library. The services of a School Psychologist and a School Nurse are available. There is an offsite dental clinic.

The Role
The Deputy Principal assumes a pivotal role, working closely with the Principal and the administrative team to shape the school's identity. Educational leadership is a key responsibility, involving the active development and promotion of the school's values, ethos, and priorities. The Deputy Principal champions a collaborative approach, encouraging not only staff but also volunteers and community members to actively share ownership of the school's vision and goals. This collaborative ethos extends to change management, where the Deputy Principal strategically facilitates the acceptance of change and identifies opportunities for improved service delivery.
Overseeing school operations, the Deputy Principal is instrumental in ensuring the effective operation of the school. This includes the delivery of the School Plan through decision-making, policy development, and the establishment of systems that align with the school's overarching objectives. Additionally, the Deputy Principal provides strategic direction for staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement in professional performance. Experience in managing SAER (Students at Educational Risk) portfolio and supporting staff and students through disability resourcing processes is highly desirable. The Deputy Principal also plays a vital role in the daily management of staff and student well-being, potentially overseeing timetabling and ICT responsibilities.
Balcatta PS is seeking dedicated leaders who will support and develop a tight-knit, hard working team. We are looking for collaborative leaders who are committed to distributed leadership and have the proven ability to build capacity in others and lead high performing teams. A strong understanding of restorative practices and supporting students at educational risk are highly desirable.
