The Key Initiatives
Statewide Services is responsible for implementing and expanding projects, programs and key system initiatives to support student wellbeing and improve learning outcomes, particularly for those from regional and remote areas, students with disability, Aboriginal students, and students from language backgrounds other than English. Together, these initiatives will help to embed whole school approaches that further build the capability of schools to meet the needs of their students through connected and tiered models of support and intervention.

UNIVERSAL, TARGETED, AND INTENSIVE SUPPORT
The Department will support whole-of-school approaches that identify student learning needs early and provide tiered universal, targeted, and intensive supports, in line with a ‘multi-tiered systems of support’ approach. This initiative will support primary and secondary public schools to deliver highly effective, evidence-based teaching practices. Universal, targeted, and intensive system level support will be provided to primary and secondary public schools identified as most in need.

INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES
Instructional Coaches will work with schools to implement highly effective teaching strategies as articulated by the Department’s Quality Teaching Strategy and, in particular Teaching for Impact, our position on quality teaching. Instructional Coaches will play an important role in providing targeted support to schools that are implementing small group tuition and will support schools to implement consistency of practice in and across classrooms.
Instructional coaches will provide targeted support to schools to implement tiered systems of instructional support, linking universal interventions to targeted supports such as small group tuition. Instructional Coaches will also support school based instructional coaches to build the capability of teachers across the state.

IDENTIFYING STUDENT LEARNING NEEDS IN THE EARLY YEARS
The Department will continue to support teachers and school leaders to identify student learning needs through the Year 1 Phonics Check and make available to all Western Australian public schools, an early years of schooling Numeracy Check to provide a range of quality assured tools to use to meet their local context and students’ needs. The Principal Education Officer will support quality teaching and data analysis in primary schools.

NGAPARRTJI NGAPARRTJI
The Department will continue to expand the Ngaparrtji Ngaparrtji – Two-Way Learning program, which supports schools to build partnerships with local Aboriginal communities to develop integrated, culturally responsive learning programs that connect Aboriginal knowledges with the Western Australian Curriculum: Science. Program expansion will support schools across all education regions to apply the Ngaparrtji Ngaparrtji – Two-Way Learning program in partnership with their local community. The team is focused on supporting schools to build professional capability of staff to deliver culturally responsive learning programs and improving outcomes for all Aboriginal students.

DISABILITY AND INCLUSION
Statewide Services, Disability and Inclusion consultants are committed to improving outcomes for students with disability through the implementation of strategic projects reflecting contemporary practice, and Department, state and national initiatives and priorities. Disability and Inclusion consultants work with schools to support students with disability by:
Disability and Inclusion consultants will lead and manage the planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of projects and their outcomes, and provide advice to senior personnel within the Directorate and the Department.
