The Role

As an Special Needs Education Assistant, you will assist the classroom teacher in the delivery of planned education programs and encourage a supportive and inclusive learning environment, including working with students in an individual, small group and whole class context. We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative person with high levels of initiative, who values the whole child and appreciates their individual learning needs. The successful applicant, should provide feedback on education and therapy programs, assist with formulation of educational plans and participate in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of goals.

The successful applicant may at times undertake generic duties, which include meeting the individual education and care needs of students with a range of special needs, including intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory impairments (vision and hearing) and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The successful applicant will ideally have the ability work collaboratively in a team environment, as well as possess good written and oral communication skills to enable the implementation of individual or small group based programs.

    • Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
    • Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
