The Role

Under teacher direction, the Home Economics Assistant may be expected to perform tasks which include assisting the teacher in the delivery of planned educational programs, assisting with preparation and maintenance of the learning environment by maintaining equipment, materials and resources for use in classes.

The successful applicant will also undertake regular activities in the Home Economics centre such as dusting, cleaning the floor and cleaning equipment throughout the teaching day. There is also a requirement to clean during the vacation periods (school holidays) which includes thorough cleaning of all equipment and rooms.

The successful applicant would also perform classroom and administrative tasks in, and out of the classroom. These tasks include checking all equipment and reporting any discrepancies to the teacher, assisting the teacher with the care and supervision of students’ activities, attending school excursions, assisting the teacher with the general care and well-being of students. This role also requires you to assist students in need of minor first aid, assist with the management of resources by maintaining and updating inventory lists, monitoring stock levels and requirements, and reporting these to the teacher and providing administrative support.

The successful applicant will ideally be highly motivated, energetic, enthusiastic, flexible and reliable. They will ensure the learning environment is inclusive and relevant, appropriately resourced and maintained, with the health and safety of the students a high priority.
