The Employee Relations Directorate is responsible for ensuring that industrial instruments and legislative frameworks are complied with and that employees are supported in a range of discrete human resource matters. The Directorate is made up of two branches: Labour Relations and Employee Support Bureau. It provides strategic and operational advice to the Minister, Director General, school leaders and line managers on a range of employee relations matters. The Employee Support Bureau handles WHS, injury management, staff wellbeing and workers’ compensation functions for the whole Department.
The Role
As an Injury Management Consultant, you will be responsible for coordinating an in-house injury management service that supports employees with both compensable and non-compensable medical conditions affecting their ability to work. You will provide expert operational and strategic advice to ensure effective case management and assist worksites in developing and implementing risk management strategies to reduce the impact of workplace injuries, illness, and disability. Your role will also involve formulating and implementing proactive policies, guidelines, and projects aimed at minimising the costs associated with workers’ compensation and employee health-related absences.
In this role, you will provide proactive return-to-work case management for employees with lost-time workers’ compensation claims, as well as those experiencing non-compensable injury or illness. You will monitor and oversee the quality of services provided by external vocational rehabilitation providers and contractors, ensuring a high standard of care. Additionally, you will work closely with key stakeholders, including principals, line managers, medical service providers, insurers, and rehabilitation specialists, to facilitate the effective management of employee injury and illness cases, supporting a safe and sustainable return to work.
This role requires a valid 'C class' driver’s licence and the ability to travel to metropolitan and regional schools, sometimes on short notice. We recognise that individual circumstances vary, and we will consider applicants with parenting or caring responsibilities, part-time work arrangements, or medical conditions that may impact long-distance travel during the recruitment process.
