We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role

As a Special Needs Education Assistant, you will ideally possess exceptional teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills to provide holistic support to students while working closely with teachers. Under teacher direction, you will assist in specialised education programs and promote a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Suitable applicants will help deliver planned education programs to assist students in reaching their full potential through the development of their academic, social, emotional, and physical skills.

We are seeking an outstanding individual with excellent written and oral communication skills to interact effectively with students with special needs, parents, and teaching professionals. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills to work as part of a team in evaluating educational and therapy programs, exceptional organisational skills to assist in delivering and developing effective education programs, and the ability to support teachers or therapists in implementing these programs. Additionally, knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents, along with the ability to assist with their general health and well-being, is essential. Using your interpersonal and communication skills, you will collaborate with teachers and other colleagues to create an inclusive education program that accommodates the needs of students.

The School

Exmouth District High School (DHS) is a proudly Independent Public School with approximately 530 students from Kindergarten to Year 12. We are committed to providing the best possible education for the children of our community and are charged with preparing our students for success in their chosen pathway.

Exmouth is a coastal community situated in the remote northwest of Western Australia. Located about 1250km north of Perth, 850km north of the large regional city of Geraldton and 550km southwest of the Pilbara mining operations in Karratha, we are surrounded by Cape Range National Park and are the gateway to the unique Ningaloo Reef, recently listed as a World Heritage site. There is a permanent population of approximately 3,500 people which swells to thousands more during peak tourist periods. Due to the number of tourists visiting Exmouth the town has many amenities which would not normally be expected in a town of its size.

Please be aware that this position does not come with accommodation.
