The Role
Anne Hamersley PS is seeking an exceptional and passionate Deputy Principal to lead our Early Childhood Phase of Learning (Kindergarten to Pre-primary). This role provides strategic leadership across teaching and learning, student wellbeing, operational management, and early childhood curriculum innovation.
You would work collaboratively as part of a dynamic executive team, leading a strong culture of excellence, inclusion, and care in our foundation years.
The Deputy Principal – Early Childhood would be responsible for leading the implementation of instructional practices and curriculum initiatives aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), the National Quality Standard (NQS), and Department of Education priorities. The successful applicant will ideally manage Kindergarten and Pre-primary enrolments, class placements, and parent engagement processes. They should oversee behaviour support, student wellbeing, and case management for students in Kindergarten and Pre-primary, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
The role includes the line management of K–1 specialist teachers (Music, Physical Education, Science, Auslan, and The Arts) and the coordination of DOTT allocations, duty rosters, and education assistant timetabling within the early childhood phase. The Deputy Principal would ideally lead and coordinate Kindergarten induction, parent interviews, family transition programs, and key events including Kindy Orientation, K–P excursions, and the annual Christmas Concert.
Additionally, the role encompasses the oversight of Students at Educational Risk (SAER) processes, Disability Resourcing System (DRS) reporting, the development of SEN plans, and ABLEWA assessments. The successful applicant may chair the Wellbeing Committee and foster initiatives that promote staff and student wellbeing, while driving continuous improvement through collaboration, reflective practice, and the effective use of data to inform decision-making.
Applicants would ideally display leadership excellence in Early Childhood Education, a comprehensive understanding of the EYLF, NQS, SAER frameworks, and inclusive education practices. The ability to lead and develop high-performing teaching teams, along with proven capability in operational leadership (including timetabling, resource management, and enrolment processes) is essential. Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and the broader school community, along with a commitment to distributed leadership, collaboration, and staff development, are also important in this role.
