The Role
The SNEA will be employed, as required, to assist students with various learning needs, from diverse cultural backgrounds, and with varied social, academic and behavioural needs.
The successful applicant will ideally have a passion for working with young children and a desire to see each child succeed, regardless of their abilities, and be interested and experienced in working with neurodivergent children as many students with autism, ADHD, Developmental Language Disorder and dyslexia/dyscalculia/dysgraphia are supported by SNEAs at Dayton PS. It is desirable that the applicant is organised, committed and has a broad range of skills and experience to assist in meeting the needs of students with various special learning needs or disabilities. They will be capable of working under teacher supervision or independently with individual students or small groups of students to deliver differentiated learning that meets their individual needs. They should use their initiative and be flexible and adaptable while supporting the delivery of planned education programs, using their understanding of inclusion, differentiation and intervention strategies to assist students with diverse learning needs. The successful applicant will ideally be willing to work in various contexts across the school from kindergarten to year 6, as required, and have a high level of interpersonal skills to enable them to work collaboratively with other staff members to meet the needs of students with special needs.

- Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
