The Role
SSEN: S is seeking an Alternative Format Library Officer, who ideally will be responsible for the day-to-day development, production, repair, cataloguing, accessioning, and distribution of tactile, three-dimensional, and electronic format educational resources for children and students with vision impairment. Preferably, the successful applicant would be familiar with and adhere to copyright legislation and the Australian Government Marrakesh Treaty for people with print disability, for the production and sending of accessible material and would additionally observe best practices and standards as documented in the Roundtable on Information Access for People with Print Disabilities Inc. alternative format guidelines.
The successful applicant will ideally possess skills and experience in producing high-quality age-appropriate learning materials. In ensuring quality curriculum resource provision for students with blindness or low vision, timely and safe production of the following learning materials will be highly desirable:
- Tactile books
- Tactile graphics
- 3-D printed materials and resources
- eText
- ePubs
The successful applicant will undertake library operations, provision of reference information and maintaining the environment and associated services of the school library to support the learning outcomes of students. You will also administer relevant library records and data systems to facilitate production and distribution to ensure resources are always accessible and available to students and staff.
The Alternative Format Library Officer will ideally have outstanding customer service skills to provide specialised library support and resources to our school community. You may work in partnership with staff and library colleagues to create contemporary and vibrant resources for children and students. You may additionally be required to network nationally to maintain knowledge and currency of production methods of modern formats and access solutions for non-visual and modified visual resources. A love of books, alternative E formats, tactile resources, creativity and innovation, and a sound understanding of library systems, processes, transport methods, and stocktakes would be highly desirable.
They will also provide general library assistance in the absence of library colleagues.
