East Narrogin Primary School is located in the progressive regional centre of Narrogin in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia about 200km south-east of Perth. East Narrogin is nestled on Wiilman Boodja within the Wheatbelt community of Narrogin. The name Narrogin is derived from the Noongar word Gnarojin which means place of water.
Our school provides primary education for Kindergarten to Year 6 students drawn from within the town and outlying areas. We provide a safe, inclusive learning environment with a focus on the wellbeing of each child. The Chaplain and the Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) are an integral part of our school community, working to strengthen links between families, the local community and the school.
Our school is focused on ensuring all students, regardless of ability or style of learning, are provided with the opportunity to reach their full potential in a positive, supportive and engaging learning environment. The Role
The AIEO plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for our Indigenous students. As a liaison between the schools and community, the AIEO works closely with Teachers, students and families to develop culturally relevant educational programs that empower our Indigenous students to reach their full potential.
Through mentoring and pastoral care, the AIEO provides support and guidance to Indigenous students, particularly those at risk, to encourage participation and achievement in the classroom. With a deep understanding of Indigenous culture and history, the AIEO brings a unique perspective to the school community, promoting respect, understanding and harmony.
In addition to providing support to Teachers and students, the AIEO also works closely with the local Indigenous community to facilitate their involvement in shaping school policies and programs. They also conduct home visits to discuss the academic progress or social development of students and provide orientation to staff about the Indigenous community.

- Demonstrated ability to contribute to a school-level team and to provide multi-cultural direction in the development of the educational program, development of language resources, and evaluation of education and behaviour management programs.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively assist Teachers in implementing educational and behaviour management programs.
- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs to students.
