The Department’s Standards and Integrity Directorate, within the Professional Standards and Conduct Division, is responsible for assessing and managing complaints in line with the new Complaints and Notifications Policy, investigating staff disciplinary matters, reviewing child deaths and incidents, and monitoring compliance with working with children checks for departmental employees.
The Directorate promotes a culture of integrity by delivering education, training, and support to uphold high standards of conduct among staff, ensuring effective complaint resolution, maintaining child safety, and reducing the risk of serious misconduct, including fraud and corruption. Allegations of staff conduct are investigated in accordance with the Public Sector Management Act 1994, the department’s Code of Conduct, policy framework, and formal instructions from the Public Sector Commissioner.
The Role
The Assessment Officer plays a key role in managing complaints and investigations within the Department, ensuring compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements. This position involves maintaining the complaints and investigations database, accurately recording, classifying, and monitoring cases to ensure timely resolution. The role supports the implementation of policies, strategies, and initiatives that promote effective complaint handling and investigative processes while providing advice to internal and external stakeholders on complaint-related inquiries. Additionally, the Assessment Officer assists in identifying trends and issues, offering valuable insights to senior management.
Working closely with senior officers, the Assessment Officer supports the management of sensitive or urgent matters and contributes to continuous improvement in complaints management, child protection, and integrity policies. The role involves liaising with key external agencies, including the Corruption and Crime Commission, WA Police, the Department of Communities, the Teacher Registration Board of WA, and the Ombudsman. By maintaining a comprehensive case management system, the Assessment Officer ensures investigations are effectively tracked and reported, supporting the Directorate’s commitment to upholding high standards of conduct and accountability.
