Kenwick School is a government Level 4 Education Support School serving approximately 101 students. We teach students aged 4-18 years, with wide ranging special educational needs. These include severe to profound intellectual disabilities, sensory and physical impairments, as well as other complex medical and behavioural conditions. The Role
The school seeks a committed, knowledgeable and team oriented, fulltime Deputy Principal. The successful applicant will work closely with the Principal and the Executive Team, teachers and staff to provide student services, curriculum leadership and promote the school’s values, vision and strategic direction, as articulated in the School’s Business Plan 2024-2027. Additionally, the role is pivotal in promoting positive relationships between students, staff, parents and the wider school community. As the successful applicant you will ideally be an inspirational leader with a strong focus on ensuring a vibrant, safe and supportive learning environment, and will ideally be someone skilled in implementing collaborative social development strategies to keep students engaged in learning and to foster the development of their pro-social skills.
The successful applicant will ideally have contextual knowledge and skills in relation to:
- Curriculum development.
- Work experience and enterprise learning programs.
- Pro-social development, applied behaviour analysis and the promotion of adaptive skills.
- Sound pedagogical knowledge and clear understandings of the impact of disability and complex needs on learning behaviour.
In addition to this applied knowledge, the new Deputy Principal will ideally have demonstrated capacity to support teachers to provide high quality and targeted teaching programs, and in leading the development and school-wide implementation of pro-social programs for students with complex needs that may include highly challenging behaviours.
A positive team work ethic and excellent interpersonal skills are highly desirable to the role, as are abilities in:
- Effective teaching to address the complex and diverse learning needs of students with disabilities; and
- Working as part of an effective multi-disciplinary team with therapists, psychologists, allied professionals, and other external agencies and service providers.
