
Roebuck Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of Level 3 Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Roebuck PS aims to provide a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that caters for the academic, as well as the social, emotional and physical needs of our students.
Our staff are passionate about student learning and work collaboratively across year levels to improve the educational outcomes of all students. We focus on providing a solid foundation in literacy and numeracy and offer a range of whole-school teaching programs, such as Let's Decode, Spelling Mastery and the use of Daily Reviews, and Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) lesson design to ensure that all students have opportunities to shine and be successful.

The Role
As a Special Needs Education Assistant, you should use your initiative to respond to the direct needs of students and assist in the creation of a safe, caring, and inclusive learning environment. Suitable applicants will ideally have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to display the ability to collaborate with teachers, creating education programs to meet the specific needs of students. You will work under general supervision or autonomously, providing feedback on education and therapy programs when required, and participating in the evaluation process related to student achievement.
Suitable applicants will ideally have knowledge and expertise in working with children with diverse medical, behavioural, or learning needs.

- Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills, including report writing and the ability to effectively interact with students with special needs, and liaise with parents, teachers and community members and assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute to a professional team and provide advice and evaluation in the development of the education program, including special education and therapy programs where they have been implemented.
- Demonstrated ability to assist professionals in the implementation and evaluation of education programs, including special education and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or psychologists.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.
