The Role
As an Education Assistant - Special Needs you will assist the classroom teacher in the delivery of planned education programs and encourage a supportive and inclusive learning environment, including working with students in an individual, small group and whole class context. We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative person with high levels of initiative who value the whole child and appreciate their individual learning needs. They will, when required, provide feedback on education and therapy programs, assist with formulation of educational plans and participate in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of goals.
You may at times be required to undertake generic duties, which include meeting the individual education and care needs of students with a range of special needs, including intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory impairments (vision and hearing) and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The successful applicant will ideally have the ability work collaboratively in a team environment, as well as possess good written and oral communication skills to enable the implementation of individual or small group based programs.

- Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
