Your new role
We are seeking an
enthusiastic and suitably experienced person for the role of
General Counsel.
This is a Fixed Term Full
Time appointment until 30 April 2026
with the possibility of extension(s) and
permanency.
As a member of
the Office of the Chief Executive, you will be responsible
for:
- Ensuring that accurate
and timely expert legal advice is provided to HSS Chief
Executive, Executive Team, Board and HSS on a wide range of
issues.
- Coordinating and
providing high level and strategic legal advice on legal
frameworks, interpretation and application of legislation,
compliance and commercial matters and litigation for
HSS.
- Instructing State
Solicitors Office (SSO) on, or undertaking, when necessary,
representation of HSS in relevant jurisdictions pertaining to
its operational services.

- a cover letter with no
more than 3 pages that demonstrates you have the
skills and experience we are looking for (as outlined in the
JDF), with particular focus on the following selection criteria
(also outlined in the JDF);

- Appropriate
tertiary qualifications in law, and admission as a
practitioner, however described, of the Supreme Court
of Western Australia and holds, or is eligible to hold,
a practising certificate.
- Extensive
experience autonomously conducting and coordinating
complex legal proceedings, and in providing high level
legal advice on complex matters.
- Ability to build
and sustain high level, productive relationships with a
diverse network of internal and external
stakeholders.
- Experience in
analysing complex and sensitive legislative and policy
positions.
- Ability to show
initiative and be proactive, identify and manage risk
and communicate effectively and
persuasively.
- Current
knowledge of legislative obligations of Health Service
Providers in accordance with the Health Services
Act 2016 (WA).
- a comprehensive CV that
clearly shows your experience relevant to this role;
and
- the names and contact
details of twoprofessional referees. It is preferable
for one of your referees to be your current supervisor or
manager.
