The School Curriculum and Standards Division provides administrative and secretariat services for, and implements the decisions of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority). The Authority provides quality curriculum, assessment and standards to enable all Western Australian students to become confident, creative learners and active, informed citizens who contribute positively to society.
The Role
In this role, you will provide expert guidance on curriculum and assessment to support the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline (Outline) and WACE. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the implementation of curriculum standards, coordinating moderation activities to ensure consistency across the State, and contributing to the development of high-quality ATAR course examinations and marking keys. You will also facilitate information sessions and provide strategic advice at both State and national levels.
Located in the Curriculum, Assessment and Strategic Policy Directorate, the Principal Consultant – Secondary Curriculum and Assessment (Humanities and Social Sciences) manages and provides leadership for course moderation and the development and review of curriculum, assessment and standards support materials in the area of Humanities and Social Sciences, for Years 7-10 with a particular emphasis on Humanities and Social Sciences in Years 11-12 (specialised knowledge in Politics and Law required and one other Humanities and Social Sciences course).
As a senior leader in this area, you will manage key programs, projects, and initiatives while ensuring compliance with government policies and standards. You will work closely with advisory committees, contract writers, and key stakeholders, providing advice and briefings to the Minister, Board, and school systems. Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential, as you will engage with schools, professional associations, and education sectors to support the effective delivery of curriculum, assessment, and examination processes.
