The Role
We are actively seeking highly skilled and dedicated Education Assistants who possess a genuine passion for supporting students with special needs. The core objectives of this position revolve around assisting students in realizing their full potential by fostering academic, physical, and social development.
As an Education Assistant – Special Needs, your role encompasses facilitating the delivery of structured education programs. This involves overseeing small groups of students under the teacher's guidance to nurture young minds and contribute to the overall health and well-being of students. Your work environment is collaborative, providing crucial support to students within the classroom setting. Valuable experience in working with students dealing with Autism spectrum disorder, mental health issues, medical conditions, and behavioural special needs would be highly advantageous. Roles may include:
- Working with individual students, offering tailored support to Special Education Needs (SEN) students. Duties involve aiding in curriculum delivery, supporting social and emotional learning, and fostering engagement within our school community.
- Additionally, responsibilities may extend to facilitating small group sessions, delivering intensive literacy and numeracy support to a group of SEN students. This requires active participation in planning and implementing targeted interventions to address specific learning needs within the group.
- Working to support a Student At Educational Risk (SAER) class, providing assistance in delivering intensive literacy and numeracy support while enhancing engagement in the classroom. Collaboration with the SAER class teacher is integral, ensuring the implementation of targeted interventions and cultivating a supportive learning environment for students facing specific educational challenges.
Ideal candidates will be compassionate, proactive, and adaptable individuals with strong written and oral communication skills, essential for implementing individual or small group-based programs. Ideally with the ability to provide constructive feedback on education and specialised programs, candidates should actively participate in the evaluation process to ensure the achievement of learning outcomes. Effective communication is paramount, especially in providing feedback and, under teacher guidance, collaborating with caregivers or parents on student progress.
Moreover, suitable applicants should not only exhibit respect, kindness, and teamwork consistently but also demonstrate a commitment to maintaining high expectations for all students and embracing whole school approaches. In addition, candidates are expected to contribute to the development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) through consultation and collaboration, embodying the belief that every student possesses the capacity to learn and achieve.
We have a range of services that support our students including a school psychologist and nurse, youth workers, peer support programs and breakfast club are designed to provide support and life skills. This means each child has a safe place to go where they belong and feel nurtured.

- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
