The Role
As an Education Assistant - Special Needs, ideally you would under general supervision and guidance, perform tasks that require discretion and judgement in achieving clearly defined outcomes for students as determined by the teacher. You would apply techniques, skills and knowledge of relevant principles and practices acquired through previous experience, on the job learning or relevant qualifications. Education Assistants - Special Needs would be responsible for modifying resources to meet the specific needs of individual and groups of students. They will collect data on student achievement, and behaviour in accordance with the documented plans and report their findings to the teacher, they will also be a part of the case management approach to student support services.
Education Assistants - Special Needs should possess strong knowledge of students with high needs, including students with physical disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, behavioural, mental or other health conditions. You will ideally be able to work unsupervised with students supporting the teaching staff in the planning and implementation of engaging, challenging and supportive learning programs, that give every student the opportunity to succeed, and will work with the teacher to implement specialised and general education programs to support the learning of all students.
We are seeking suitable applicants who are effective team players and good communicators. Ideally you will have excellent time management skills as well as been able to work with a variety of teachers and students throughout the day. We are seeking Education Assistants - Special Needs who are skilled in the preparation of the learning environment and learning tasks.

- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
