This is a permanent full-time position commencing April 2025
The Department of Education’s core purpose is to provide every student with a pathway to a successful future. Student health, wellbeing, engagement and achievement are interrelated and core to each student’s success. Quality teaching strengthens student performance and enhances their ability to achieve their goals. This is best achieved when the system, schools, students, families, communities and other agencies work in partnership.
The partnership approach is underpinned by school autonomy within a connected and unified public school system – schools know their students, families and communities best and are best placed to effect positive outcomes through local place-based decision-making.
Local planning in schools is best supported by a public school system where quality decisions are made at the highest level. This includes directing resources to where they are most needed and designing new initiatives that make a difference to schools and young people. Quality information, accountability and effective project and program management are core to achieving this – building and assuring these practices across the Department is the remit of the System Response and Transformation (SRT) division.
SRT’s Program Management Office (PMO) drives and provides oversight of responses and initiatives that facilitate the delivery of the Department’s strategic intent. We do this by implementing, managing, and monitoring projects of strategic importance using project management methodologies to underpin collaboration, standardisation, and the timely delivery of key program and project milestones.
The allocation of staff to projects and initiatives within the division is flexible with the right people being drawn upon at the right time to support delivery of our collective business priorities based on the necessary skills and expertise.
The Role
The Program Delivery Manager has responsibility for program governance of system-wide initiatives. The successful applicant should have high level project management skills; the ability to support subject matter experts in delivering high risk and high accountability projects; and the ability to bring people together to achieve common goals while managing competing deadlines and evolving priorities. The PMO was established in late 2023. The initial focus of the role will be to embed effective practices and processes to deliver on our remit and so the manager we are seeking will be able to move in and out of operational activities at various levels to support task completion, test processes and make sound decisions in relation to ongoing improvement of those processes. This position also has responsibility for HR and finance activities within the PMO.
The Program Delivery Manager will work as a member of a flexible and agile leadership team across the division and Department to ensure consistency of practice.
The successful applicant will ideally hold a recognised qualification in project, program and portfolio management or extensive experience in leading others in implementation of effective program management methodologies. It is highly desirable that applicants have experience with Sensei IQ or similar project management software, HP TRIM or similar records management software, and the Microsoft 365 suite of apps.
