The Role
We are seeking to employee a Education Assistant – Special Needs to join our friendly team.
As an Special Needs Education Assistant at our school you will ideally have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have the ability to collaborate well with the teacher to create and maintain a supportive, inclusive education program to meet the specific needs of the students. You will ideally assist the teacher in the delivery of planned education programs, and implement individual student or small group programs or demonstrations. Experience in working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, mental health and behavioural issues would be highly desirable. A high level of computer and IT skills is also necessary as our college has a focus on the use of IT to access learning programs for staff and students.
Also, when required, the Special Needs Education Assistant will ideally provide feedback on education and therapy programs and participates in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of goals in special education. Successful applicants will ideally use excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to collaborate well with the teacher to create and maintain a supportive, inclusive education program to meet the specific needs of the students. They will ideally be organised and able to use their initiative to assist the teacher with the general care and wellbeing of students and maintenance of the learning environment

- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
