Butler Primary School (PS) opened in 2003 and received Independent Public-School status in 2012. The school is a Level 5 school and accommodates over 540 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The school environment and facilities are well maintained to ensure they cater for the needs of our students through ample play areas and well maintained grounds.

The Role

The Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) is a support role that assists teachers in delivering planned education programs and encouraging a supportive and inclusive learning environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and families.

The AIEO acts as a liaison between the community and school to develop an educational program relevant to both educational and cultural needs. They provide mentoring, pastoral care with the provision of support and advice to schools and teachers on the participation and engagement of all students at risk. They co-design and implement behaviour management plans, maintain records, and provide information to parents.

The AIEO facilitates community contribution to the formulation of school policies on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, and histories, conducts interviews or home liaison visits, manages class resources, and assists with preparation and maintenance of the learning environment.

    • Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.
