The Role
At Charthouse PS, the Deputy Principal plays a crucial role in leading, supporting, and empowering staff and students within their sub-school (K to 2 or Years 3 to 6). Their responsibility extends across teaching, learning, well-being, and engagement, leading our business plan and ensuring that every child has access to a high-impact, supportive, and structured learning experience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Instructional Leadership: driving the school’s Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) model, to ensure low variance, high quality and evidence-based teaching across all classrooms.
- Student Well-being and Engagement : leading Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) initiatives to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging school culture.
- Students at Educational Risk (SAER): using data-driven strategies to identify and support students needing intervention, ensuring all students achieve success.
- Teacher Development and Support: providing support, coaching, mentoring, and professional learning to enhance staff capacity to improve student outcomes and staff well-being.
- Parent and Community Engagement: acting as a key liaison with families, building positive relationships to support student learning and well-being.
- Data-Informed Decision Making: analysing student progress data to drive targeted interventions and continuous school improvement.
- High Expectations and Whole-School Consistency: upholding expectations and ensuring all students experience a structured, consistent approach to learning and behaviour.
The Deputy Principal also works closely with the principal, playing a vital role in shaping school culture, policy, and future direction. Their leadership ensures that every learning moment matters, supporting staff and students to feel empowered, engaged and reach their potential.
