
We are seeking to establish a pool of Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers (AIEO) for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
At Northam Primary School (PS), we cater for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and currently have just over 300 students. Our students come from the local town and from the outlying farms and rural properties.
Our school fosters a safe and inclusive learning environment; we focus on building positive relationships with students, parents, carers and with the wider community. Our staff, comprising of newly graduated teachers through to teachers with many years of experience and dedicated non-teaching staff, work together to develop individual potential through excellence in education. We have specialist teachers in science, visual arts, Noongar language and physical education.

The Role
As part of this role suitable applicants will act as liaison between families, the community and the school and support efforts to promote improved communication and build effective partnerships between the school and community. At Northam PS we strive to maximise the participation and achievement of all students. Suitable applicants will ideally have experience in the role of an AIEO and be able to support students to strengthen and reinforce their cultural identity by offering guidance and affirmation of cultural understanding, providing pastoral care in areas of emotional and social wellbeing as well as providing positive role modelling. The AIEO will also support teachers to implement the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework. Suitable applicants should be able to build relationships with Indigenous community and encourage representation within the school to implement our school's Reconciliation Action Plans and Cultural Awareness targets.
To be suitable for this role, applicants will possess a great work ethic and maintain a high standard of professional conduct at all times. The ability to build and maintain positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders while maintaining confidentiality will be highly considered. The ability to conduct Aboriginal dance groups and music to engage students is highly desirable.
