We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant - Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2026. The Role
As an Education Assistant - Special Needs at Pinjarra SHS, you will be a highly valued member of our school community. Suitable applicants will ideally be able to build positive, professional working relationships with students, staff, parents/carers and stakeholders, to support and enhance learning. You should possess an openness to change, be solution focused; always ensuring you are providing the best opportunities for our students.
As an Education Assistant – Special Needs, you will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of planned education programs for students. This includes managing small groups of students under the direction of the teacher to assist students to reach their full potential through the development of their academic, physical, and social skills. You should be highly engaged in the development of student independence through planned and explicit approaches to support their self-management and self-regulation skills. This includes involvement in the development, implementation, monitoring and review of student programs and plans.
Suitable applicants will ideally possess knowledge of effective strategies to support students, combined with the ability to be highly organised, to think on your feet and use your initiative. Capacity to build positive relationships, manage challenging behaviours, and at times work independently without supervision will be highly regarded. Applicants with experience in working with students living with trauma and students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are encouraged to apply.

- Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
