We are seeking to establish a pool of Deputy Principals for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
The School of Special Educational Needs: Behaviour and Engagement (SSEN:BE) provides educational support and services with schools, for students with extreme, complex, and challenging behaviours across a K-12 context. SSEN:BE is part of the network of specialist schools that operates under Statewide Services (SWS). We are one of 7 Specialist Schools forming part of the Service Delivery pillar.
We are a collaborative partner in our Specialist School Network with:
- SSEN: Disability
- SSEN: Sensory
- SSEN: Medical and Mental Health
- SALS School of Alternative Learning Settings
- IMSS Instrumental Music School Services
- SIDE School of Isolated and Distance Education
SSEN:BE staff provide individualised support for schools and young people that can take the form of, consultative, direct, indirect and or professional learning support (including Classroom Management Strategies and WA Positive Behaviour in Schools) as befits the needs of the school or student referred to our service. SSEN:BE is a statewide school with capacity to provide the various support across all education regions for public schools K-12 through a diverse range of professional and allied professional roles.

The Role
Suitable applicants will ideally collaborate as an effective member of the School Executive team, to lead the culture of the school, where high support and high accountability is a feature of everyday service and professional interaction across our range of diverse sites. The role will require suitable applicants to possess current, evidence-based knowledge of best practice in leading teams, inspiring others in the workplace and achieving measurable results that benefits the various stakeholders who use our service.
Suitable applicants will be able to display previous experience, leading teams to innovatively solve complex problems, often in challenging circumstances. An ability to lead staff through a considered change management approach while adhering to policy compliance in an environment of consistent, constructive staff feedback on practice is essential.
Suitable applicants will ideally display an exceptional understanding of Department of Education policies and trends relating to behaviour and engagement. Outstanding skills and experience in applying evidence-based pedagogy and a clear understanding of how a Multi Tier System Support framework operates in a school support and school functioning capacity as related to our services.
Demonstrating culturally responsive practice is an expectation of the role along with the ability to develop these skills in colleagues both within and beyond the school for successful removal of barriers to success for Aboriginal students and families.
Our Deputy Principals are based at Padbury as part of Statewide Services. The role involves travel and may include overnight stays throughout WA. Suitable applicant also needs to hold and maintain a current WA - C class drivers’ licence.
