Broome Senior High School (SHS) is establishing a pool of Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers (AIEO) for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Broome SHS, winner of the WA School of the Year for 2012, is now one of the premier high schools in the state. A high performing school with a diverse student population, including 40% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, the school has grown to 800 enrolments and offers a wide range of subjects through to Year 12.

The Role
As an AIEO, suitable applicants will provide support and effective assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, their parents/guardians, teachers, the school and the community through the knowledge, understanding and sharing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, language and culture.
AIEO’s act as a liaison between the community and the school to develop an education program that is relevant to both educational and cultural needs. AIEO's assist and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, particularly those at risk, through mentoring and pastoral care to ensure their participation and achievement in the school environment.
AIEO’s support teachers to implement the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework. Suitable applicants should ideally display a strong link to Aboriginal culture and establish positive working relationships with our families and local community. An ability to work both in teams and individually to achieve successful outcomes for students and their families will be highly regarded.

- Demonstrated ability to effectively assist teachers in implementing educational and behaviour management programs.
- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs to students.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.
