We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
North Tom Price Primary School is one of two primary schools located at Tom Price in the Pilbara region of WA, approximately 1465 km from Perth. The school has very green and attractive grounds and is surrounded by the nearby hills of the Karijini National Park and the Hamersley Ranges. The renowned Karijini National Park is a short drive away providing a picturesque recreational area to visit and enjoy. The school presently delivers educational programs to around 270 students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

The Role
As a Special Needs Education Assistant, you will assist teachers with providing support for students with special needs. You will, under general supervision and guidance, assist in the implementation of specialised education programs. Additionally, you will assist the teacher in the delivery of planned education programs, including the operation of computers and digital technologies, and implement individual student or small group programs or demonstrations.
Within this role you would provide feedback when required on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of goals in special education. The successful applicant will ideally possess strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills which will be used to develop and promote the school’s values, ethos, and priorities across the school community.
Suitable applicants will ideally have strong behaviour management skills particularly around challenging behaviour. An understanding of supporting students to self-regulate and social skill development is desirable.

- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
