We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant - Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Maarakool Primary School (PS) (former planning name Brabham East Primary School) is situated on Noongar Whadjuk Boodjhar and opens for Kindergarten to Year 6 students in 2025. The school is projected to open with 250 students and will cater for 540 students. Our school community includes families of different backgrounds and cultures, many from overseas where English is not the first language or dialect spoken at home.

We seek staff who bring a strength-based approach and who prioritise building productive relationships with students, families, and the broader community. A collaborative team approach will ensure inclusion, student voice and targeted intervention. We have a whole school approach to supporting consistency for our students at risk through a tiered approach to intervention. Training and background in the delivery of an intervention program/ model (including, but not limited to Language Lift, InitialLit, MiniLit, or MacLit) will be highly regarded. Knowledge of Zones of Regulation, as well as Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), trauma informed practices and/or a Restorative Approach will also be an advantage.
Suitable applicants will ideally possess strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills which will be used to develop and promote the school’s values, ethos, and whole school approaches. Effective collaboration and cooperation are the basis on which we work together and display of these qualities are imperative for applicants. Suitable applicants will assist teaching staff, in the delivery and assessment of planned education programs and in promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment. You will work under general supervision or autonomously and contribute advice and expertise, collaborating with school community members to support student achievement. You should provide feedback when asked on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to student progress. The ability to assist with the general health and wellbeing of students, as well as the ability and willingness to engage with children with challenging behaviours, is highly desirable. Applicants will ideally have a strong knowledge of a range of evidence-based techniques for learning and behaviour and have some experience or knowledge of disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
