The Role
The Program Coordinator - Student Services, leads a team responsible for the social/emotional wellbeing of our students. The role coordinates the activities of the School Psychologist, Chaplain and other school staff to support students at the College with a particular emphasis on the residential students. The successful applicant will preferably have knowledge of the Positive Behaviour in Schools framework and a growth mind-set should be evident in their dealings with students, parents, and staff. Positive public relations skills are integral, as the role includes liaising with parents, staff across the College and external agencies. Adopting and facilitating inclusive practices and building positive relationships with students, staff and the community are important components of the role. The successful applicant will work with a commitment to whole college approaches and initiatives and have a strong evidence-based approach.
The position includes a 0.2 - 0.4 teaching load which will be negotiated based on the skill set of the successful applicant and will require the successful applicant to undertake the following activities:
- Oversight and monitoring of the wellbeing of all students enrolled at the college including attendance follow up.
- Provision of support and advice to students, parent/caregivers and staff in relation to Academic, Behavioural, Attendance, Social, and Emotional wellbeing.
- Organisation of activities, awards and functions to develop and maintain positive relationships between Students, Staff and Parents/Caregivers.
- Management of individual student behaviour and progress through restorative practice, case management and mediation.
- Develop and coordinate opportunities for student leadership within the college.
- Assisting and supporting the HOD Residence with residential student welfare and behaviour matters as they intersect with the daytime program.
- Coordination and monitoring of day students in line with college expectations.
- Providing a link between the various services within the Student Services area i.e. School Psychologist, Chaplain, Nurse.
- Collection, analysis and dissemination of data and information relevant to the pastoral care of all students.
- Other duties as may be required by the Principal and Senior Leadership Team.
About the school
WACOA Harvey is co-educational for students in Years 10, 11 and 12. As a specialist Agriculture and related trades training school, students come from across Western Australia with most boarding on site. Students apply to attend the College for the real life learning environment and with a genuine interest in our programs and what these can do for their future job prospects. As a result, our students choose to be at the College and want to learn.
The College is located in Wokalup, 8kms south of the Harvey town centre, on a 900ha farm run on a semi commercial basis. The farm runs several sections which provide students with real life working experiences in horticulture (parks and gardens, vegetables, citrus and vines), beef, sheep, dairy, intensive animals, farm workshop and general farm maintenance.
Harvey is a 1.5-hour drive south from Perth, a 20-minute drive to the coast, and a 40-minute drive to the city of Bunbury. The area is well supported with a range of sporting and recreation opportunities, schooling options, shopping and medical services. It is a great place to live.
