The Role
In collaboration with the Principal, Associate Principals provide educational leadership within the school and the wider community. This includes supporting and developing staff to achieve whole-school initiatives and Business Plan targets. Key responsibilities involve coaching and mentoring staff to enhance instructional practices, overseeing the delivery of whole-school teaching and learning programs, and using data analysis to drive evidence-based decision-making. Additionally, they lead positive behaviour management strategies and provide case management support for students with needs in areas such as behaviour, attendance, and learning diversity.
Suitable applicants will ideally display expertise in implementing a whole-school PBS framework, including experience with Positive Handling strategies to support students with complex needs. Working with families of children requiring Tier 3 PBS interventions is a key aspect of this role. Applicants should also be familiar with unique engagement strategies, such as supported play through sport programs, and those with experience in teaching PE are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applicants should be outstanding instructional leaders with a proven ability to lead the school’s Professional Learning Community (PLC) approach. Formal training in Talk for Writing (TfW) and experience in leading whole-school writing programs are highly desirable. Digital Technologies and STEAM are important curriculum focus at Yale PS, and it is desirable that applicants have experience leading whole-school approaches in these areas. Applicants should also demonstrate an ability to support staff in enhancing data literacy and leveraging networked support platforms to improve teaching and learning outcomes through a PLC approach.
The ability to establish genuine, positive, and caring relationships with students is important. Applicants should have knowledge, understanding, and experience in leading Social-Emotional Learning initiatives, as well as in supporting Students at Educational Risk (SAER) and Special Education Needs (SEN). Leadership experience with a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) approach is desirable. Additionally, suitable applicants should display cultural responsiveness and a commitment to celebrating and respecting diversity, fostering an inclusive and welcoming school environment for all.
