Aveley Secondary College (SC) opened in 2018 and is a large secondary school catering for Year 7-12 in Perth’s Swan Valley. The College is recognised as a school of choice with high expectations and standards, a progressive approach and commitment to excellence. Teaching and learning is a focus with Explicit Direct Instruction, the signature pedagogy, supported by a rigorous behaviour curriculum and systems to support conditions for learning in the classroom. The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for teachers with an interest in student career pathways. Our Career Practitioner will work with the school leadership team and embed career development and work exposure activities into curricular and co-curricular programs.
Career Practitioners would be innovators and should ideally have the ability to work collaboratively across the College. They should implement programs and provide resources to embed career development across learning areas. We are looking for a teacher that enjoys working with students to help them imagine and connect with their future career aspirations and create pathway plans that address their individual needs and who will support students to build their workplace capabilities. The Career Practitioner will support and deliver work readiness programs and working closely students in our career catalyst program. Working on course counselling with select students as well as the Year 9 and 10 cohorts is a key aspect of this role.
Career Practitioners should ideally have strong communication skills and should be able to liaise with and share information easily with students, staff, parents, training providers, employers, and industry. To be competitive for this role, a high level of knowledge about the diversity of career pathways, with an understanding of school contexts in relation to local employers, community agencies and training providers is desirable.
If you do not hold a recognised Graduate Certificate in Career Development, you will ideally be willing to complete a qualification - which will be funded by the Department. Time will be made available for the successful applicant to complete the qualification, and study will be incorporated into the role in the first 12 months. If you already hold an equivalent qualification, recognition of prior learning may be possible. This role includes a teaching load which will be negotiated with the successful applicant. The successful applicant appointed to the Career Practitioner position may have the opportunity to complete a Graduate Certificate in Career Development if you do not already hold one.
