The Strategy and Policy Division plays a crucial role in shaping and supporting educational outcomes for the Department by creating and implementing system-wide strategies and policies. Key responsibilities include overseeing the regulation of non-government schools, leading school accountability and review programs, and delivering evidence-based insights into student, school, and system performance. The Division also manages system-wide policies, coordinates systemic reform, and maintains oversight of intergovernmental commitments, ensuring that educational strategies are informed by national and international developments in education reform.
The Principal Policy Officer within the Strategy and Policy Division will contribute to these initiatives by working closely with both internal and external stakeholders, offering expert advice on higher education policy.
The Role
We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and experienced Principal Policy Officer in Higher Education to work within a team to engage with Western Australia’s universities and relevant stakeholders to strengthen relationships to ensure the delivery of effective strategic higher education policy advice.
Higher Education knowledge and experience, communication and interpersonal skills are key to the role.
The Principal Policy Officer will use their knowledge and understanding of Western Australia’s higher education sector and State and National priorities to provide high-level advice on policy, practice, critical issues and trends in higher education to Corporate Executive and the Minister of Education to ensure alignment of strategic policies and directions.
Drawing on experiences in establishing effective workplace relationships and networks, the Principal Policy Officer will be required to consult, collaborate and negotiate with relevant stakeholders on strategic priorities and ministerial directions.
