We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
At Spencer Park Education Support Centre (SPESC), all students show progress and achievement in their learning against their individualised learning plans and programs. We value knowledge and understanding of evidence-based practices for engagement in learning, and behaviour management strategies such as Antecedent, Behaviour and Consequence (ABC). An understanding of how to apply appropriate interventions for management of engagement in learning, working with challenging behaviours and meeting sensory needs is an advantage when working with our students. With an additional underpinning belief that all behaviour is communication, every student has the right to have a voice and to be heard, SPESC makes this possible through the use of various modes of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) such as PODD books and communication devices, Auslan and Key Word Sign.
SPESC's vision of “Partnerships for Success Learning” places a strong focus on providing expertise for students in the areas of ‘Learning’, ‘Inclusion’ and their ‘Wellbeing. We are situated alongside the Spencer Park Primary School and work closely with them at every opportunity providing inclusivity within the students’ social and learning programs.
In supporting students learning to self-regulate emotions and engage in social experiences, SPESC employs Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) expectations and a specialised social thinking program, “We Thinkers”, that supports each student learning to “Be Safe, Be Friendly and to Be Your Best.”
SPESC is one of five support centres in Western Australia to offer a specialised learning program for children in Kindergarten and Pre-primary with Global Developmental Delay (GDD) and Autism (ASD). Through the Early Intervention Program students work mostly one-on-one in an explicit instruction model designed to prepare children for Year 1 at their local mainstream school.
