Australind Senior High School (SHS) is located north of Bunbury with easy access to the wider Southwest region. Australind SHS is the largest Independent Public School in the South West region of Western Australia. We are also one of the most successful, with a strong history of outstanding success for our students in both ATAR and Vocational Education and Training (VET) pathways.

The Australind community is widespread and diverse with 600 of the 1200 students attending school by bus each day from Harvey, Brunswick Junction, Binningup and a range of other localities within the Harvey Shire. The Role
Are you a positive and passionate English Teacher looking for a rewarding opportunity?
Australind SHS is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and innovative English Teacher who is responsive to change and willing to cater for a variety of learning styles across Year 7 – 12 English Courses, including ATAR English, ATAR Literature and Year 11 and 12 General English courses. You should have a commitment to inclusive education and a strategic approach in planning for improved student outcomes. The capacity to differentiate the curriculum to meet the needs of students with a range of achievement levels, language backgrounds and learning difficulties will be highly regarded. In keeping with this, the successful applicant will ideally be committed to maximising the engagement and progress of all students. Capacity and/or experience in teaching ATAR courses across the English Learning Area is desirable.
As the successful applicant, you will ideally be an enthusiastic, dedicated English teacher with a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. Our English department is well resourced, collaborative, and looking for innovative and committed teachers to join our team. Teachers with upper primary school experience interested in teaching in our Year 7 program are encouraged to apply.
You should be able to ideally demonstrate a strong commitment and capacity to fulfill the following:
- Plan, teach and deliver to classes in both Lower and Senior School
- Create and design face-to-face lessons with clear learning objectives and outcomes.
- Use existing learning materials and develop your own as required.
- Document and maintain assessment results in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Evaluate and monitor student learning and course progress.
- Play a role in student consultations, assessment grading and moderation.
- Create an interactive and positive learning environment for students.
With effective interpersonal skills, you will work closely with students, teachers and the community to achieve the best educational outcomes for students. You will ideally be able to demonstrate knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum for English and proven teaching and learning strategies that support the development of sound literacy practice. Experience in teaching and assessing English in years 7-12 is highly desired, in addition to experience in using Learning Management Systems eg Compass, and other technologies within the classroom.

Teachers and School Administrators employed at Australind Senior High School in 2025 are eligible to receive a Temporary Attraction and Retention Incentive of $2 500 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
The Temporary ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.

Mobility appointments for permanent metropolitan and south west teachers
Eligible permanent teachers who hold a substantive teaching position in a North or South Education Region school, or a South West Education Region school* may elect to undertake this role as a 3-year mobility appointment, with a right of return to their substantive position. At the cessation of the 3-year mobility appointment, teachers can elect to return to their substantive role, or transfer permanently into this school.
