The Role
Gosnells PS is home to the very first SLP for students with ASD. This successful program provides specialist and intensive support to students with autism - without intellectual impairment - who have the capacity to learn at or near their academic year level standard with support but may have specific social and emotional development needs that are related to their autism.
The suitable applicants for this role will work in a shared, collaborative arrangement with staff, providing professional leadership in the program and the whole school, building capacity of staff, promoting inclusivity and positive educational outcomes for students with Autism. As a member of the senior leadership team, you will contribute strategically to whole school strategic planning.
As a Program Coordinator you will develop, implement, monitor, and review plans and policies associated with the specialist programs for students with autism and provide high level advice and support to Departmental staff. As part of this role, you will also liaise with principals, internal and external stakeholders regarding the transition of students.
Gosnells PS proudly caters for over 400 students from Kindergarten to Year 6 with three of its classes dedicated specifically to the SLP. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements in relation to teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder without a diagnosed intellectual disability:
- Apply evidence-based pedagogy for improving student outcomes relevant to the WA curriculum
- Knowledge and/or a commitment to participate in relevant training in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), positive behaviour support and a range of evidenced-based teaching practices to improve student outcomes
- Monitor, review and report on the performance of students by creating individualised learning plans, maintaining relevant, rigorous and valid programming, data collection and reporting systems
- Efficiently deploy resources and manage a team of education assistants to ensure program fidelity
- Demonstrate high level interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with colleagues, parents, students and the school community
