Karratha SHS is an inclusive school, offering students who have a disability access to a range of work settings including mainstream classes and the Inclusive Learning Unit. We also provide students with additional classroom support and Special Educational Needs (SEN) plans which are created by the staff who work with the students. SEN plans are individualised for each student, and consist of set goals and strategies used to achieve the target outcome. Experience with Classroom Management Strategies (CMS) and Team Teach training is highly regarded. Adjustments are made by the classroom teacher to support the student’s needs for participation, curriculum access and assessment. Some programs used in the Inclusive Learning Unit are Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN), Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communications Handicapped Children (TEACCH), Direct Instruction (Spelling Mastery and Reading Mastery), Letters and Sounds and You Can Do It Education.
Karratha SHS is proud of its ability to achieve academic excellence as well as opportunity for all through its co-curricular programs. We provide our students with the chance to become confident learners, skilled leaders, and responsible citizens. Karratha SHS is a Positive Behaviour Support School and we promote our expected behaviours of Show Respect, Act Responsibly and Be Inclusive.
The school environment is friendly, supportive, and places a strong emphasis on pastoral care. Our motto, ‘Towards Tomorrow’, urges students to be committed to creating a successful future for themselves.
