We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2025. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Aveley Secondary College (SC) opened in 2018 and is a large secondary school catering for Year 7 to 12 in Perth’s Swan Valley. The Role
Aveley SC has Education Assistant – Special Needs (EA-SN) positions in two contexts – mainstream and education support. Education Assistants need to be able to work across both contexts as required but are usually based in one school context.
Working in mainstream to support students with diagnosed disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Vison Impaired, Hearing Impaired, Physical disabilities and/or supporting curriculum programs for students with learning difficulties.
The Education Support Program caters for students who have moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, ASD with high educational needs, and students with complex physical disabilities and sensory impairments. The Education Support Program delivers differentiated, individualised learning programs linked to each student’s Individual Education Plan, the Western Australian Curriculum, Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDA) and Abilities Based Learning Education (ABLEWA). There is a purpose built life skills room and hydrotherapy pool. Experience with Hydrotherapy, ASDAN delivery and qualifications in First Aid, Team Teach and Austswim would be highly desirable.
As an EA-SN you will participate in professional learning opportunities to further build your skills and knowledge. In joining our dedicated team of teaching and non-teaching staff, you should be willing to contribute and work as part of this team and display a commitment to working collaboratively and building positive relationships with students, parents, staff and the wider community. Suitable applicants will ideally be versatile with the ability to work well under pressure and as a team player.
EA-SN's may be expected to assist students with all activities of daily living. EA-SN are able to work under limited supervision offering expertise related to their particular area. Education outcomes are determined by the teacher, with the EA-SN performing tasks which require skill and discretion in problem solving, decision making, and choosing methods and processes to achieve outcomes. These duties may require you to supervise students within or outside the school context without the presence of a teacher..

- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or psychologists.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well being of students
