Wyalkatchem District High School (DHS), in the Central Wheatbelt, caters for kindergarten students through to Year 10. We focus on maximising individual potential, academic and social so that students can later excel in the workplace and become active, confident, and valued participants in society.

The Role
As a Special Needs Education Assisstant you will ideally have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to collaborate well with the teacher to create and maintain a supportive and inclusive education program to meet the specific needs of the students. Ideally, applicants who are well organised and use their initiative to assist the teacher with general care and well-being of students and maintenance of the learning environment are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience in an Education Support environment and/or working with students with challenging behaviours is highly regarded, as is owning or progression towards a Cert III or IIII (or equivalent).
The successful applicant will, under teacher direction, assist in the implementation of specialised education programs such as occupational therapy, speech therapy and physiotherapy programs. They will also assist the teacher in the delivery of planned education programs, including the operation of computers and digital technologies, and implement individual student or small group programs or demonstrations. When required, they will provide feedback on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of goals in special education.

- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
