Alkimos College is seeking to appoint a highly effective and motivated person to join our growing team. The Laboratory Technician will assist and support the Science teaching staff and provide appropriate advice on relevant legislation, occupational health and safety requirements and Departmental policy and practices applicable to laboratory operations.

Each year we have added an additional cohort and will reach our full complement of Year 7 -12 in 2025.
Stage 1 buildings include administration, lower school student services, library, gymnasium, fitness centre, food studios, cafeteria, IT labs, technologies workshops, general classrooms, nine science laboratories, and nature play area. Shared oval and community facilities with the City of Wanneroo are available via the adjacent Halesworth Park precinct. Stage 2 (rolled out in 2024), includes a performing arts centre, lecture theatre, senior school student services centre and general classrooms.

The Role
The role of the Laboratory Technician will require you to:
- Provide support and advice to the Head of Learning Area and teaching staff, to ensure that curriculum requirements are met
- Provide advice on suitable experiments, and/or demonstrations to support teaching and curriculum outcomes for science classes
- Prepare chemicals, equipment, materials, design and construct teaching aids and collect and care for living organisms for study purposes in compliance with chemical, physical and biological laboratory practices and legislative requirements
- Organise preparation areas and classroom laboratories and undertake general housekeeping of chemical, equipment (including repairs and maintenance) and other resources
- Manage stocks, including ordering of supplies and equipment, liaison with suppliers, and completion of annual stock takes
- Provide advice on safe use, documentation, storage, handling, maintenance and disposal of science equipment, chemicals and biological materials
- Assist with coordinating the science budget, including monitoring expenditure
- Induct and train new science teachers in the safe use of chemicals and equipment
