The Role
As an Education Assistant - Auslan, you would carry out activities within or outside the classroom to facilitate communication between Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, their peers, teachers and staff members. You would work with teaching staff in the delivery of their planned education programs to ensure that Deaf and Hard of Hearing students can access their learning programs, including meeting Individual Education Plan goals. Ideally the Education Assistant – Auslan would have experience working with students with disabilities.
The suitable applicants may be involved in team situations, work under limited supervision, and may be required to engage in consultation and provide feedback. The role may require discretion in problem solving, decision making and choosing methods and processes to achieve educational outcomes that are determined through consultation with the teacher or other professionals.
The suitable applicants will ideally have good written and verbal communication skills, be able to work well as part of a team and have a good understanding of the issues affecting Deaf or Hard of Hearing students, including the ability to show initiative in completing tasks combined with strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with students, staff and families.
