The Role
Professional Knowledge
The successful applicant should have a deep understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum: The Arts (Music, Dance, Drama) and the General Capabilities and Cross-curriculum Priorities. A proficiency in music theory (reading, writing notation, rhythm, melody, harmony) is highly desirable as well as an awareness of inclusive education strategies to support students of all abilities in performing arts lessons.
Professional Practice
The successful applicant will ideally have proficiency in one or more instruments (e.g., piano, guitar) and/or vocal ability, allowing for effective modelling of music techniques. Also the skills in conducting ensembles and leading group performances, as well as demonstrating drama and stage techniques.
A strong ability to manage dynamic, practical learning environments where students are engaged in activities such as music-making, rehearsals, and music and dramatic performances would be an advantage. Ideally the successful applicant will have expertise in designing engaging lesson plans that involve composition, improvisation, and active learning in music and performing arts for general primary performing arts classes and our Year 5 & 6 extension program.
Professional Engagement
The ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and the broader school community, especially when organizing school performances and events is highly desirable. The successful applicant will ideally have the confidence and leadership in directing school concerts, choirs, drama performances, and other school events related to music and the arts. An ongoing commitment to professional learning and reflective practice to continually improve instructional practice is sought after and a genuine passion for the arts that is reflected in their teaching and extra-curricular activities, inspiring students and engaging the wider school community will be a benefit in the role.
