This is a permanent, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2025
About the Role
Ngaanyatjarra Lands School seeks a culturally responsive, team-oriented leader capable of overseeing the educational and administrative leadership of this dynamic school site. This includes management of approximately 15 staff including teachers, AIEOs and support staff. The principal will lead the Warburton campus team to facilitate Ngaanyatjarra students and staff capacity to thrive within their community as well as broader Australian society.
The school is committed to embedding the values and actions of the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework across all aspects of school management, teaching and learning. The Ngaanyatjarra Lands School has clear, agreed directions around an approach to curriculum, student well-being and engagement. The Warburton campus principal will be an instructional leader who will oversee meaningful learning - integrating the Western Australian curriculum with Ngaanyatjarra culture and language. To this end, we are seeking a leader who will actively support the directions of the school with the central ethos of targeted learning and the development of expertise within two-way teaching teams. Two-way teaching and learning includes the Two-Way Science program and the ability to lead the school and community in this learning area is essential.
The focus for secondary education is based on Big Picture Education which incorporates a student-focussed approach and requires an informed and creative leader who actively seeks opportunities for students and collaboration with community agencies. Integral to the role of campus leader is a capacity to engage genuinely with the local Indigenous community and families with a view to progressing a common view of education and facilitating local leadership.
As a professional and experienced leader within remote Aboriginal education, the successful applicant will have much to offer to the stakeholders with whom they interact but should also assume they will need the capacity to be flexible and learn new skills in an environment that is possibly unfamiliar to them. This will involve actively participating in their community and developing an understanding and appreciation of language and culture different from their own.
The successful applicant will be an integral part of the broader Ngaanyatjarra Lands School leadership team and will engage in the development of whole-school vision and strategic direction, developing campus-based operational plans to ensure the local implementation of the school’s key strategies. This leadership position, whilst complex and challenging, will offer the successful applicant a unique opportunity to work within a supportive and organised school structure that allows them to focus their personal and professional strengths on managing a cohesive and caring school committed to high expectations for Warburton students.
The Principal supports the Department’s objectives for the public education and training of students in Western Australia. The role of the Principal is to lead and manage the planning, delivery, evaluation and improvement of the education of all students in a community through the deployment of resources provided by the Department of Education and the school community.

About Ngaanyatjarra Lands School
Ngaanyatjarra Lands School is a remote network of eight remote community school campuses catering for Indigenous students from Kindergarten to Year 12. The Western Desert Cultural Bloc occupies a large region west of the tri-state border in Western Australia, and this campus principal position will be based at the largest of those communities – Warburton.
The Warburton campus consists of four primary classes, two secondary classes (years 7-9) and a senior secondary class operating from an off-site facility. Predominantly, the students speak an Indigenous language as their first language and are therefore learning English as an additional language or dialect, within a cross-cultural context.
