The Role

The Head of Department – English, will ideally have comprehensive knowledge of the Year 7-12 Western Australian English Curriculum, as well as the Secondary English as an Additional language or dialect (EAL/D) Progress Map, together with assessment and reporting requirements. This position requires someone who can work collaboratively, in and across teams, to continue to build and develop the English learning area. The ability to effectively use data to inform decision making should underpin your practice.
The successful applicant will ideally lead the implementation of an innovative, dynamic curriculum in and beyond the classroom, and ensure a high level of outcomes for our students. The Head of Department – English is required to provide instructional leadership, with a commitment to implementing our Consistent Practice Frameworks and Bring your own device (BYOD) initiative and embedding these practices within the English learning area. Capacity in implementing instructional coaching, as part of a school-wide strategy, is highly desirable.
As a Senior Leader of the school, the successful applicant will ideally possess exceptional interpersonal attributes, leadership skills and the commitment to ensuring that their staff continue to build their capacity in innovative teaching and learning, trauma informed practices, Classroom Management (CMS), academic extension, and tiered response to intervention. Considering the diversity of our multicultural school, and the inclusion of an Intensive English Centre on site, experience in teaching students with a Language Background Other Than English will be highly beneficial to the role.
With an Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage (ICSEA) of 993, we have around 49 & Language background other than English (LBOTE) and over 60 different nationalities represented at the school.
